Meet our Perfumer – One of Europe’s best kept secrets
Olivier Decoster launched his career in 1987 to become one of Europe’s leading perfumers ironically after completing his doctorate in medicine. His passion for perfume began as a young man having worked in the lavender distilleries in Provence France. In parallel to his studies, he was subsequently introduced and chosen to apprentice under two well known perfume masters in Grasse which served to only to further reinforce his passion.
After creating hundreds of fragrances for the cosmetic and skin care industry early in his career, Mr. Decoster began receiving requests in 1992 from several fashion houses to create their exclusive high end perfumes.
This is how he came to making fragrances for well known fashion brands such as Scapa of Scotland, Olivier Strelli, Noukies, Rue Blanche, Mer de Nord and many others. During this time, Olivier Decoster was also elected as President of the Marie Claire Scentsations Jury responsible for voting on the top new fragrance launches each year – a role he held for 10 consecutive years.
In 2006, after a busy career as an independent perfumer, Mr. Decoster joined a company specializing in the creation of custom scented products for leading home interior designers such as Flamant Interiors, Scapa Home and Ester Gutmer. As the in house perfumer, Mr. Decoster developed scents used especially for a growing trend for interior fragrances and perfumed candles. It was through this collaboration that Mr. Decoster was chosen from amongst the leading French perfumers to create four exclusive fragrances for the Château du Versailles candle collection.
In 2009, Mr. Decoster began to study the possibility of lending his talents to create olfactory signatures for the untapped luxury hotel sector. He had noticed that hotels were missing an opportunity to extend their use of sensory marketing to create an olfactory identity or bespoke hotel scent. He decided to bring together the necessary capabilities and skills around a simple idea: offer up market hotels and palaces the possibility to welcome their guests in a refined olfactory environment.

Olivier Decoster, the founder of the company, is well known in the perfume world having established himself over the past 25 years as the creator of exclusive fragrances for some of Europe’s leading hotels, fashion and interior designers.

Later he created interior fragrances and perfumed candles for leading interior designers such as Flamant Interiors and Scapa Home. He established HD Fragrances in 2009 with the goal of lending his talents to create olfactory signatures for the untapped luxury hotel sector. He had noticed that hotels were missing an opportunity to use a bespoke scent to upscale the quality of their guest toiletries and to ensure guests are welcomed in a refined olfactory environment.
